General Ideas

Literacy- Write a letter to the author telling them what you enjoyed about their book.
- Plan and write a prequel or sequel to the story.
- Look through the book for any unknown words and try to find out what they mean.
- Choose a sentence and think about how to improve it (e.g. by changing some vocabulary, adding more detail or changing the order of the words).
- Read part of the story and predict what might happens next. Could you write your own ending?
- Role play one of the characters from the story and think about the choices that they made.
- Choose one of the characters and write a description of their personality. Make a list of words to describe what they are like?
- Create a persuasive poster to promote the book to other readers.
- Write a book review, explaining what you did and didn’t like about the book.
- Identify where the story is set and try to find out about that place.
- Can you draw a map of the area where the story is set?
- Make a timeline which shows the main events of the story.
- Use a microphone / recording device to record an audiobook version of the story, thinking about the characters’ accents and using expression to make it interesting for the listener.
- Use an Art program to create an illustration and / or book cover.
- Find out about the illustrator of the book. Have they illustrated any other books? What materials do they use? Could you create your own illustration in a similar style?
- Choose a scene in the book and make your own illustration.
- Create a storyboard which shows the main events of the story.
- Design a new cover for the book. Think about what book covers include… illustrations, title, author, blurb, publisher, taglines, reviews, ratings… and don’t forget to include these on your cover!
- If the story was going to be turned into a film, could you compose a soundtrack for it?
